SHIODA YASUHISA SENSEI - Kenshu, June 2007

We were very pleased to have Yasuhisa Shioda Sensei, 8th Dan, direct from Tokyo, Japan as a guest instructor at our Kenshu in Nova Scotia during the week of 1-5 June 2007. This Kenshu was in celebration of our 10th Anniversary of Yoshinkan Aikido on the East Coast of Canada. This Kenshu was open to all adult Aikido practitioners and included valuable training time with Shioda Sensei, social events and local sightseeing. The invitations were accepted by many instructors and students of Aikido from across Canada and the United States. There were more than 14 cities and towns represented with 81 Aikido students attending the seminars held in the Valley Dojo in Nova Scotia. Sensei Shioda was accompanied by five of his students from Tokyo, Japan. Our Japanese visitors sincerely loved their time in Nova Scotia. There were many sightseeing excursions during the visit which included visits to the Habitation in Port Royal, the beach in Harbourville, the Valley View from the Look-Off, a visit to Oaklawn Farm Zoo and a tour of Gaspereau Vineyards. A Public Demonstration was held on Saturday afternoon with demonstrations being performed by many of the visiting Instructors from other cities and towns. These demonstrations culminated in the finale with an advanced demonstration by Shioda Sensei that had the crowd of more than 200 spectators in complete awe. Never before had many of the spectators seen the power of Aikido demonstrated to this level.
